It can be hard to spot signs of abuse or neglect but if you have any concerns, please speak up.
In 2024-25, more than 400,000 children were classed as needing help and protection as a result of risks to their development or health (around 1 in every 30 children). This was an increase of 0.7 per cent from the previous year*.
It’s easy to talk through a potential safeguarding concern. Whether your concern is about an adult or a child, you can visit the Speak Up page on our website to find out who to report it to in your local area.
Remember, if you believe that there is a risk of immediate danger, always call the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
