Housing Plus Group is celebrating a double win at the 2026 Shropshire Telford & Wrekin Apprenticeship Awards, with apprentice Jake Burnett and mentor Ryan Donegani both taking home top honours.
Jake was a finalist in the Health and Social Care Apprentice of the Year category before being crowned the overall Telford & Wrekin Apprentice of the Year. Judges described him as “an absolute star who brings positivity to every shift”, recognising his dedication, compassion and commitment to supporting people with disabilities and complex needs.
Speaking after receiving his award, Jake said:
“I’m speechless. I really wasn’t expecting it, so I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed, but I’m absolutely delighted.
“I’ve really enjoyed the evening. I’ll keep learning and developing, and hopefully one day work my way into a management position.”
Ryan Donegani was also recognised for his outstanding contribution, winning the Mentor of the Year award. His dedication to supporting apprentices, building confidence and helping colleagues reach their potential has made a lasting impact across the organisation.
Ryan said:
“I’m ecstatic. It’s great to know the hard work has paid off.
“What makes me most proud is seeing apprentices grow in confidence and develop their skills. They’re the future of Housing Plus Group, so helping them learn and succeed is incredibly rewarding.”
Housing Plus Group was shortlisted in four categories at the awards, with Madison Evans reaching the final of the Rising Star Apprentice of the Year category and the organisation itself named a finalist in the Large Employer of the Year category.
The recognition reflects Housing Plus Group’s continued investment in apprenticeships and the colleagues who help make the programme such a success. The organisation currently employs 48 apprentices across 17 roles throughout the Group.
Catherine Morgan-Trainor, Early Careers and Apprenticeships Specialist at Housing Plus Group, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of Jake and Ryan for their well-deserved achievements.
“Jake’s success reflects the dedication, compassion and positivity he brings to his role every day, while Ryan’s award recognises the huge difference he makes in supporting and developing apprentices across the organisation.
“We’re also delighted to see Madison recognised as a finalist and to have been shortlisted in the Large Employer category. These achievements are a testament to the strength of our apprenticeship programme and the commitment of colleagues across Housing Plus Group who support apprentices to learn, develop and succeed.
“Congratulations to everyone recognised at this year’s awards.”
