Safeguarding means protecting the rights of an adult or child to live safely, free from abuse and neglect.
In 2023-24, the NHS* estimated that 615,530 safeguarding concerns were raised about adults in the UK. This was an increase of 5% from the previous year, with ‘Neglect and Acts of Omission’ being the top reason for concern.
This year’s theme for Safeguarding adults’ week (18 – 22 November) is Working in Partnership and as hosts of the week, Ann Craft Trust are encouraging people to look, listen and ask.
Kevin Davies, Head of neighbourhoods and member of our Safeguarding committee, said “The safety of our customers is always our priority. We are joining this nationwide campaign because we want to make sure that you know where to go for help and advice if you have a safeguarding concern.
“Abuse and neglect can take many forms and can occur anywhere; in the home, or in any public place. It can be difficult to identify, too, but if you are in any doubt, please always Speak Up.
“You do not have to be convinced, just concerned. You can contact your local Safeguarding Board, and they will take it from there”.
Whether your concern is about an adult or a child, you can visit the Speak Up page on our website to find out who to report it to in your local area.
Remember, if you believe that there is a risk of immediate danger, always call the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
