Essentials of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

This course is aimed at those involved in the handling of people’s information as part of their day-to-day role. This course will provide a GDPR overview for those looking to gain more information on how to uphold the six principles of GDPR. With this course, learners will understand the key principles and process under the regulation and what their roles and responsibilities include. Since May 2018, all UK companies are required by law to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In its early days, GDPR compliance quickly became a key priority for businesses, as the risk of large financial penalties for failing to introduce a culture of greater data transparency were introduced.

GDPR has since given consumers more power than ever before over their data. They now have the right to know how their data is used and stored, and for how long. They also have the right to be deleted from marketing databases, and businesses that fail to comply with any of these requests could find themselves facing a fine of up to €20 million, or four per cent of annual turnover, depending on which is greater.

The regulations replace the previous data protection law, the Data Protection Act 1998, and it is vital that everyone who handles data as part of their job is aware of the changes, as it will remain in place even after Britain leaves the EU. This is exactly what the Virtual College’s the Essentials of GDPR e-learning course is designed to help with.

You will learn:

•    What is a data controller?
•    Data processing
•    Data subject
•    Data protection principles
•    Good practice
•    Data security
•    The data breach
•    Systems
•    Subject access request
•    Data subject rights
•    Accountability and governance
•    Investigating breaches
