Young people living in Shropshire have been providing us with invaluable feedback by taking part in our ‘Where I Live’ project.
The project asks young people living in our communities how they feel about where they live. Members of the Shropshire Youth Association (SYA) were recently given the opportunity to take part.
Jo Rigby, Customer Engagement Officer, said: “We wanted to hear what young people like and don’t like about where they live and how it could be improved.
“SYA’s Youth Forum spoke to young people living in Monkmoor, Highly and Hanwood and recorded the results.
“It’s great to know that most young people are happy with where they live in Shropshire and we’re looking forward to doing more work with SYA in the future.”
With thousands of our affordable homes located across Shropshire, the feedback from these young people is invaluable and will help us to create places people are proud to call home.
Improving the Customer Experience Manager, Karen Bushell, said: “We want to hear from all parts of the communities in which we work and young people can often be hard to reach. But they are our customers of the future and we want to hear from them.
“The ‘Where I Live’ project empowers young people to have a voice that goes beyond their own home and to tell us what works well and not so well in their community to help us improve our service.
“It’s exciting to be working with young people on this project and we’re looking forward to engaging with more youth groups in the future.”
Kerry Williams, area youth manager at SYA, says the project has also been a great experience for the Youth Forum.
“The project has helped SYA youth forum members gain new skills in a variety of areas, including organisation, teamwork, public speaking, time management, collating and presenting information, event planning and most of all confidence building,” explained Kerry.
“Homes Plus sent some questions and the youth forum looked at how best to proceed. Members decided they wanted quality and quantitative information and they would achieve this by consulting with their youth group.
“It was then decided that the forum should present their findings to Homes Plus which was a great experience for them.”
