A tenant must pay more than £500 after rubbish was found dumped outside a block of flats.
The pile of abandoned furniture and household waste was left next to bins outside of the flats, in Stafford, and we were able to prove that it belonged to the tenant.
Homes Plus arranged for its removal and now the cost of removing the rubbish has been added to the tenant’s rental account and they have been found to be in breach of their tenancy.
We are warning customers about the consequences of fly-tipping. Not only is it an eyesore for our customers, but it is also a criminal offence to dump waste next to a bin, on a street corner, in an alleyway or on a grass verge.
Samantha Allcott, Director of Housing at Homes Plus, has issued the following statement. She said: “Our customers deserve clean and safe streets. Fly tipping increases the risk of attracting pests such as rats, mice and ants which could then spread to people’s homes.
“If we find the tenant responsible, we will ask for the waste to be removed within a reasonable time. If this does not happen, they will be recharged for the cost of removing this and will be in breach of their tenancy.
“So far this year we have spent £120,000 removing dumped rubbish, money which could be spent on new kitchens and bathrooms for our customers.”
Please dispose of waste in the correct bins or take your unwanted items or packaging to your nearest recycling centre. Any excess rubbish will not be collected by your local Council.
